The Dixie Area Workforce Housing Affordability Committee - DAWHAC

Welcome to DAWHAC

DAWHAC’s Mission:

The mission of DAWHAC is to sustain quality of life by identifying and encouraging the removal of barriers to attainable housing for the workforce of Washington County, Utah.

What is DAWHAC?

The Dixie Area Workforce Housing Affordability Committee, also known as (DAWHAC), was created in October of 2005. The committee was organized to find solutions to the crisis of providing housing that is attainable to the workforce of the community.

The committee consists of local elected officials from the six largest cities in Washington County and is chaired by a county commissioner. Each member of the committee also chairs a subcommittee to  research and recommend solutions to various aspects of the workforce housing challenge. An Ombudsman is in place to assist local communities in efforts to accommodate workforce housing options and to aid individuals and families in their quest for workforce housing alternatives.

DAWHAC has defined workforce housing as those who earn too much to qualitfy fo r affordable housing subsidies, but not enough to afford a home. This includes those who earn between 60-110% of the Area Median Income ($51,500 in 2008). Within these income parameters, homes that are 1,100 to 1,600 square feet in size and in the price range of $175,000 to $219,000 are the focus of workforce housing needs.
